Tips, weapons, missions & how to play – Battlefield 6: REDSEC

Battlefield 6 REDSEC Mode Guide

Battlefield 6 introduces REDSEC, a new free-to-play battle royale experience set within the game. Featuring multiple game modes, weapon rarities, optional missions, and the classic encroaching ring of fire, REDSEC brings a fresh and intense twist to the battle royale genre.

What is REDSEC?

REDSEC is a battle royale mode where players drop into a large map, scavenge for weapons, complete optional missions to earn powerful gear, and fight against other players. Throughout the match, a dangerous ring of fire gradually shrinks the playable area, forcing players closer together. The last team or player standing wins the game.

After selecting REDSEC, players can choose from three main versions:

  • Gauntlet – Focuses on completing objectives. You must complete your mission to survive, continuing until only one player or team remains.
  • Duos – Classic battle royale gameplay with teams of two players. There are 50 teams in each match.
  • Squads – Teams of four players compete, with 25 teams per match.

Getting Started: What Should I Do First in REDSEC?

Your primary goal in REDSEC is to be the last person or team alive. Every action you take should be aimed at achieving this. Here’s a basic outline to help you begin:

  1. Land in a location with few or no other teams to avoid immediate conflict.
  2. Loot crates and containers to find weapons and gear like grenades and airstrikes.
  3. Select and complete optional missions for additional powerful gear and rewards.
  4. Stay aware of the encroaching NXC circle of fire and move toward the safe center area.
  5. Engage enemy players strategically, or avoid fights when necessary to survive longer.

Always try to move forward and into the next safe circle when the fire closes in. The playable area shrinks until only enough space remains for about two teams to survive. While moving, continue scavenging or completing missions to upgrade your equipment.

Weapons & Gear in REDSEC

At the start of each REDSEC match, you will have only a pistol and a knife. The race to find better weapons begins immediately upon landing.

Weapons are categorized using a color-coded rarity system, ranked from lowest to highest:

  • Common (Gray)
  • Uncommon (Green)
  • Rare (Blue)
  • Advanced (Purple)
  • Superior (Gold)
  • Personal Favorite (Red) – special weapons customized outside of matches (explained below)

The more attachments a weapon has, the better its performance, improving its rarity level. You can upgrade your weapons by finding attachments or through weapon containers scattered around the map — these appear as crates, cases, or safes, sometimes found in vehicles or compounds.

Choosing a weapon that fits your class is crucial. For example, an Assault class player will likely struggle with a sniper rifle, so pick weapons that complement your chosen class’s strengths.

What Are Red Weapons?

Red weapons are your Personal Favorite weapon loadouts customized outside the match in the main Battlefield 6 multiplayer mode. These are weapons you’ve upgraded with attachments and tailored to your preferred playstyle.

You can obtain red weapons in REDSEC from Custom Weapon Drops. These drops look like torpedoes or missiles sticking out of the ground. Interacting with these drop pods lets you select any weapon marked as a favorite.

Depending on your weapon’s level of upgrade, a red weapon may outperform or underperform compared to purple or gold weapons found in the match.

Choosing Your Class in REDSEC

When launching REDSEC, you choose a class similar to Battlefield 6 multiplayer. Each class offers unique tools, weapons, and benefits. For example, the Engineer class starts with a blowtorch that can open safes.

In squad matches, ideally, your team will have a balanced mix of classes to cover all roles effectively.

How Does Reviving Work?

In REDSEC, when your armor and health are depleted, you fall to the ground and enter a downed state. You can crawl to a safe spot and wait for an ally to revive you. A timer counts down during this state, after which you die if not revived. Enemies can also finish you off before the timer expires.

Early in the match, REDSEC has a forgiving revive system: if you die early, you get a chance to parachute back into the fight and rejoin your squad. However, as the match progresses, second chances expire, making revives more difficult.

After second chances are gone, you must bring downed allies back by escorting them to redeploy points. This process takes time, creates noise, and alerts other players, so it requires caution.

What Are Missions?

Every few minutes, REDSEC offers players a selection of optional missions. Upon completing a mission, you receive airdropped rewards directly at your location. Rewards include better weapons, equipment such as airstrikes, or keycards that grant access to vehicles like tanks.

Missions typically require traveling to specific locations, destroying targets, transporting items, or transmitting data. Objective markers and brief task descriptions appear on-screen when a mission starts.

Many missions involve engaging other players in PvP combat, adding strategic choices about when and where to fight.
