Apex Legends Season 27 “Amped” Brings a Revamped Olympus Map and Exciting Updates
While the most recent season updates for Apex Legends have introduced some thrilling additions, sometimes it’s time for a change. For Season 27, titled Amped, Respawn Entertainment is taking a sledgehammer to the old Olympus map and updating it to usher in an exciting new meta. But that’s not all players can look forward to.
The Return of Olympus: A Fresh Take
The Olympus map originally debuted back in Season 7, during a time when Apex Legends, like the rest of the world, was navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Designed as a sky-high map with a futuristic flair, Olympus quickly became a fan favorite. Now, five years later, Respawn is injecting new life into its design.
For those unfamiliar with the lore, chaos struck Olympus after it collided with the Stasis Net on Broken Moon and disappeared in Season 20. Eventually, the city was found buried under the snowy tundra of Pagos and restored to a workable condition.
Players can expect to find four new Points of Interest (POIs) across the updated map:
- Somers University: Built by Horizon, this serves as a replacement for the old Orbital Cannon. Unlike the Orbital Cannon, which proved less fun during early and late game, Somers University offers a more approachable exterior, additional cover locations, and a triangular layout.
- Gravity Engine: Replacing the old Energy Depot, this POI is the source that keeps Olympus afloat. It features numerous lifts and zip rails, increasing verticality and dynamic movement opportunities.
- The Stabilizer: Taking the place of the former Docks, the Stabilizer keeps Olympus aligned. Its platform layout can lead to intense and harrowing encounters.
- The Dockyhard: Located near Hydroponics, this area combines elements from the classic Olympus map with new vertical features, providing varied environments for team fights.
Legend Reworks: Enhancing Vertical Combat and Mobility
With so much focus on Olympus, it’s fitting that Horizon receives several buffs this season. While Respawn considered nerfs, they decided this felt less fun and instead granted her new movement tools. As players progress through each session with Horizon, they’ll unlock options that offer advantages in vertical battles. Additionally, her Gravity Lift Tactical now has a shorter cooldown, and her Black Hole Ultimate gains extra health.
Valkyrie, known for her aerial combat expertise, sees several enhancements as well. Once the undisputed master of the skies, Respawn recognized that other Legends have caught up, necessitating changes. Her VTOL Jets now provide increased speed boosts, and her Skyward Dive Ultimate features a reduced takeoff time. Furthermore, her Missile Swarm Tactical has been amplified to scan enemies on contact and no longer causes self-damage. New upgrades will influence her missile patterns, fuel consumption, and further reduce Skyward Dive’s takeoff time.
Rampart’s defenses have also been strengthened. Her Amped Cover Tactical now grants her walls greater health, speed boosts, and even a roof as players level up during a session. Additional upgrades introduce benefits such as regenerating health and infinite ammo when behind Amped Cover. While these updates suggest Rampart may become a more defensive Legend, Respawn believes these enhancements will encourage her to stay mobile, enabling her squad to benefit from her abilities.
Weapon and Movement Updates
Among the weapon changes, the most notable is the addition of the Double Tap Hop Up to the Alternator. This attachment lets players fire both of the Alternator’s barrels simultaneously, significantly increasing damage — enough to secure kills at close range.
Movement mechanics also receive tweaks with an improved Mantle Boost that amplifies momentum, allowing players to traverse the map faster. A new visual indicator has been added to help players execute the move more intuitively.
Olympus Comes to Wildcard Mode
In addition to its arrival in the core Apex Legends Battle Royale, Olympus is making its debut in the Wildcard mode, introduced last season. The Wildcard version of Olympus includes extra ziplines, gravity cannons, and other features designed to keep the action fast-paced.
Players can experience Olympus in Wildcard as part of the Supersonic Event, running from November 18 to December 16.
