A week ago, the Gujarati film *Vash Level 2* and its Hindi-dubbed version, *Vash Vivash Level 2*, were released on Netflix on October 22. This move marked a significant milestone, as it is rare for the streaming giant to acquire the digital rights of a Gujarati film.

According to a source close to Bollywood Hungama, Netflix has paid a whopping Rs. 3.5 crores for the digital rights of *Vash Level 2* and *Vash Vivash Level 2*. This is the highest price ever paid by an OTT platform for a Gujarati film.
The source explained the reasons behind this record deal:
“Netflix paid the record amount because *Vash Level 2* is very well-made and was well-received by audiences during its theatrical release. The Hindi-dubbed version also found success in cinemas, which broadened its appeal to non-Gujarati viewers. Moreover, the film belongs to the supernatural genre, which has a strong global fan base.”
The source added, “The *Vash* series already holds a strong reputation among moviegoers. It’s widely known that the popular 2024 Hindi film *Shaitaan*, starring Ajay Devgn, R. Madhavan, and Jyothika, is a remake of the first part of the *Vash* franchise, released in 2023. This has increased curiosity around the second part.”
Further boosting the film’s profile, *Vash* recently won the Best Gujarati Feature Film Award as well as the Best Supporting Actress Award for Janki Bodiwala at the 71st National Film Awards. Janki reprised her role in *Shaitaan*, enhancing her recognition among a wider audience.
All of these factors combined prompted Netflix to break the norm and acquire the rights for a record sum.
**Streaming Details and Industry Impact**
Another industry insider revealed the terms of the deal:
“Netflix will stream both versions of the film exclusively for 3½ years. For the first year, both versions will be available exclusively on Netflix. After that, the makers can choose to stream the film on other platforms.”
A prominent Gujarati film producer described this as a proud moment for the industry:
“Earlier, Gujarati films were typically paid based on viewership and rarely earned more than a crore through digital deals. The Netflix acquisition of *Vash Level 2* for Rs. 3.5 crores is a game-changer. If the film attracts sufficient viewers on Netflix, it will encourage other OTT platforms to invest in more Gujarati films at competitive prices.”
