Adrian Peterson was arrested for DWI and unlawfully carrying a weapon in Sugar Land, Texas. The incident occurred on Sunday morning, according to multiple reports. Peterson was taken into custody around 9:30 a.m. local time by Sugar Land Police, KHOU 11 reported.
Online jail records confirmed that he was booked on charges of driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon. There are few details about what led to the arrest. Police told KHOU 11 that they couldn’t release additional information due to the active investigation.
It wasn’t immediately clear why Peterson was in the Sugar Land area, though he hails from Palestine, Texas, which is a few hours north of Sugar Land.
This would be Peterson’s second DWI arrest in a year. He was previously stopped by police in Minnesota in April, around 3 a.m., following the Vikings draft day party. At that time, Peterson was cited for going 83 mph in a 55 mph zone. He then blew a .14 BAC, which was well over Minnesota’s legal limit of .08.
In June, a video surfaced showing Peterson involved in a fistfight at a poker game that occurred on May 27 in Houston. Police were not involved in the altercation.
Peterson, who won the NFL MVP award in 2012, hasn’t played in the league since 2021. He had an extensive career, spending 10 years with the Minnesota Vikings before playing with the Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Football Team, Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans, and Seattle Seahawks.
Over the course of his NFL career, Peterson recorded 14,918 rushing yards and 120 rushing touchdowns.
