This wild bug is still plaguing Pixel phones years later, and you won’t believe how serious it is

The Dangerous, Long-Running Pixel 911 Bug Is Still Haunting Google Phones—Including the Pixel 10

A serious and potentially life-threatening bug that has plagued Google Pixel phones since the Pixel 6 is reportedly still affecting the latest Pixel 10 models. This issue prevents Pixel users from successfully connecting calls to 911, emergency services which are fundamental to any smartphone’s core functionality.

### A Problem That Just Won’t Go Away

The problem first emerged with the Pixel 6, released in 2021 alongside Google’s first-generation Tensor chip, a phone known for various bugs. Despite multiple phone generations later and improvements in hardware and software, reports continue to surface about Pixel devices failing to connect to 911 — even under strong cellular coverage.

One Pixel 8 user shared that it took them a staggering 10 minutes to get a 911 call through, only succeeding after enabling Wi-Fi calling. This isn’t an isolated case. Reddit threads and carrier acknowledgments domestically and internationally indicate that the problem persists, though it appears to have been resolved in Canada. Unfortunately, in the U.S., the issue remains very real and dangerous.

### More Than Just a Bug

While every phone encounters bugs, this issue is far from trivial or cosmetic. Making emergency calls is the most crucial function a phone must perform without fail. When a phone can’t reliably dial 911, it undermines user trust and the device’s reliability—especially in urgent, life-or-death situations.

To date, this bug has lingered across four generations of Pixel phones, from the Pixel 6 through to the Pixel 10. That’s a significant oversight from Google, especially considering the Pixel’s reputation for innovation and premium features like advanced cameras and AI capabilities.

### Not Just a Google Problem, But More Prevalent on Pixel

Reports have also surfaced of other devices—from iPhones to Samsung Galaxy phones—experiencing occasional 911 call failures. However, for the Pixel line, this seems to be a persistent and recurring problem rather than an intermittent glitch.

When you buy a phone, you essentially purchase a lifeline. This bug shatters that fundamental promise, leaving many Pixel users understandably frustrated and concerned.

### Why This Is Completely Unacceptable

As a long-time Pixel fan, I appreciate many aspects of Google’s phones, but none of that matters if the device can’t be trusted to do its most important job: connecting to emergency services when needed.

This isn’t some niche feature malfunctioning; this is basic telephony failing over multiple phone generations. It’s critical that Google addresses this issue promptly and thoroughly.

### What’s Next?

We hope Google takes this problem seriously and delivers a permanent fix without further delay. Users should never have to worry whether their phone will connect to 911 during an emergency.
