Kings’ Shops at Waikoloa Beach Resort began a multi-phase renovation in July, with work expected to be completed by winter 2025. The project includes updates to common areas, landscaping, and restrooms, while the shopping center remains open throughout construction.
Opened in 1991, Kings’ Shops has served as a commercial and social hub on the Kohala Coast, blending local culture with a mix of international and island-based retailers. General Manager Lynn Rostau said the renovation represents a long-term investment in both Hawaii island’s visitor economy and the surrounding community.
While financial details have not been disclosed, Rostau emphasized that the improvements aim to reinforce Kings’ Shops’ position as a premier destination for residents and visitors alike. “The enhancements will introduce elevated gathering spaces, lush landscaping that celebrates the natural beauty of Hawaii island, and modernized restrooms designed for comfort and convenience,” she said.
The renovation is being conducted in phases to allow ongoing progress while maintaining access to stores and restaurants. According to Rostau, community feedback has been positive, with many supporting efforts to improve both comfort and aesthetics.
Kings’ Shops is home to the island’s only Tiffany & Co. store, along with tenants such as Roy’s, Tori Richard, Kahala, lululemon, TravisMathew, and CocoNene. Several businesses are also updating their individual spaces, including CocoNene, which plans to expand, and Tori Richard, which has already begun its own renovation.
Cultural programming remains a vital part of the center’s offerings, with weekly events such as lei making, hula lessons, and Polynesian drum sessions continuing as scheduled. Rostau also shared that special anniversary events planned for 2026 will highlight these traditions as part of the center’s 35th year celebration.
