BOSTON (WHDH) — Former Celtics players Terry Rozier, Chauncey Billups, and Damon Jones were among dozens of individuals arrested on Thursday as part of a large-scale federal gambling investigation. The probe was nationwide and spanned several years.
7NEWS spoke with former federal prosecutor Evan Gotlob to gain insight into how a complex case like this comes together. Gotlob explained that investigators likely made deals with insiders who had valuable information to aid the case as evidence was gathered.
“They’re using a lot of complex evidence here which probably involves maybe some wiretapping of phones, reading of emails, other WhatsApp, Signal communications like that,” Gotlob said.
Regarding potential sentencing, Gotlob noted that penalties typically depend on the amount of money involved. He added that sentences for crimes of this nature usually range from five to seven years, but jail time is not always mandatory.
