Kate Cassidy’s friend recently opened up about her “concerning” behavior following the tragic death of her boyfriend, Liam Payne, in Argentina last year.
“There were months where I literally didn’t see her smile, and I was seeing her every day,” a close friend of the influencer revealed to the Daily Mail on Sunday. “It was so concerning. She didn’t even seem like herself. She canceled a lot of hangouts and just was almost a recluse.”
The insider shared that Cassidy, who began dating Payne in 2022, is doing better now. She is “hanging out with friends” and is even “open to dating again,” although “she’s not quite there yet.”
“There was a point where she was definitely not OK, but she’s getting better now,” the source added. “She’s moving forward now. She knows it’s what he would have wanted.”
The friend also addressed claims made by CasaSur Palermo Hotel server Braian Nahuel Paiz, who alleged that he spent an intimate night with the One Direction alum and supplied him with drugs the day before he tragically fell from the hotel balcony.
“Kate doesn’t pay any attention to them,” the pal said about the allegations. “She knows what she and Liam had, and that it was very, very good. Whatever happened that day doesn’t change the love and respect of her relationship with Liam.”
Cassidy left Argentina two days before Payne died on October 16, 2024. He was 31. The “What Makes You Beautiful” singer reportedly begged Cassidy to extend her stay, and eyewitnesses claimed he began acting in an “erratic” manner after she departed.
An autopsy revealed drugs were found in Payne’s system, and several people, including Paiz, are facing charges for allegedly supplying him with the substances.
In a heartfelt message, Cassidy expressed her grief: “I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private. Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.”
Since then, Cassidy has been candid about her and Payne’s last memories as a couple, including the wedding they attended together in France the September before his death.
She also honored what would have been the “X Factor” alum’s 32nd birthday in August by sharing a video of herself baking a cake in his memory.
