2004 Ducati 998 Matrix

This 2004 Ducati 998 Matrix is a rare and highly collectible motorcycle, produced in limited numbers as a tribute to the Ducati 996 featured in the 2003 film *The Matrix Reloaded*. This particular example spent time in California before being acquired by the current seller in October 2024. Now showing approximately 8,000 miles, the bike is finished in a striking metallic green with *The Matrix Reloaded* decals, capturing the essence of the iconic film.

Powering this Ducati is a liquid-cooled 998cc Testastretta L-twin engine, paired with a six-speed transmission. The engine features Weber-Marelli fuel injection and four desmodromically actuated valves per cylinder, delivering 123 horsepower and 71 lb-ft of torque when new. The timing belts were replaced in 2021 during a service that also included spark plug changes and valve clearance inspection.

The Ducati 998 Matrix is equipped with premium suspension components, including a 43mm inverted Showa fork and an Öhlins piggyback-reservoir monoshock mounted to the single-sided aluminum swingarm. Stopping power comes from triple disc brakes featuring gold-finished Brembo calipers—two drilled rotors up front and a single drilled disc at the rear. The brake fluid was flushed under current ownership to maintain optimal braking performance.

This motorcycle rolls on five-spoke Marchesini 17″ alloy wheels, fitted in December 2024 with Michelin Power GP2 tires sized 120/70 front and 180/55 rear. Additional noteworthy features include a silver-finished trellis frame, integrated windscreen, dual headlamps, fairing-mounted mirrors, rear-set foot controls, and a biposto tail section with black vinyl-upholstered rider and passenger seats. A Ducati Corse carbon-fiber tank protector adds both style and protection.

In December 2024, the bike underwent comprehensive maintenance and upgrades at Pro Italia Motors, a Ducati dealership in Glendale, California. During this service, the clutch—including pressure plate, springs, retainers, and bolts—was replaced along with the clutch cover and gasket. The drive chain was also replaced, and the battery was swapped out for a new unit. Additionally, the motorcycle was fitted with a replacement factory-style engine control unit (ECU) and a Ducati-Termignoni dual-outlet exhaust system. The fuel cap, radiator guard, brake lights, and various trim components were replaced at that time to maintain the bike’s excellent condition.

The cockpit features clip-on handlebars with replacement control levers mounted below the upper triple clamp, which also holds a piston-style steering damper. Instrumentation consists of a 180-mph speedometer, a 13,000-rpm tachometer, a coolant temperature gauge, and an array of indicator lights. The odometer reads just over 8,000 miles, with approximately 80 miles ridden under the current ownership.

This 2004 Ducati 998 Matrix is offered with a complete tool kit, removed aftermarket components, detailed service records, and a clean California title in the seller’s name. It stands as a superb example of a collector’s edition superbike—combining rare cinematic heritage with the performance and engineering excellence Ducati is renowned for.
