Tens of thousands of left-wing “No Kings” protesters descended on New York City and across the country Saturday, waving vulgar signs to protest President Trump. Meanwhile, the progressive mayor of Chicago urged locals to get ready to “fight.”
In the Windy City, where residents have repeatedly clashed with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers carrying out Trump’s deportation efforts, Mayor Brandon Johnson called on protesters to be “ready.”
“Are you ready to defend this democracy? Are you ready to fight fascism? Are you prepared to destroy authoritarianism once and for all?” he bellowed. “Let the world hear you: no kings!”
About 100,000 people turned out in Midtown, according to the NYPD, which reported no arrests had been made. In Manhattan, anti-Israel protesters chanted “Free Palestine,” while also calling for the president—who recently brokered an historic peace between Israel and Hamas—to get out of office.
Others carried foul-mouthed signs reading “F‑k Trump” and labeled the president a “fascist” and a “tyrant.” Demonstrators also slammed ICE, comparing the federal law enforcement agency to the Ku Klux Klan (KKK).
In Washington, D.C., Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders told the crowd, “It is in danger when we have a president who wants more and more power in his own hands and in the hands of his fellow oligarchs.”
President Trump denied being a monarch. “They say they’re referring to me as a king. I’m not a king,” Trump told Fox News on Friday.
Many of his top allies, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, characterized the protests as a “hate America” rally.
The march was organized by a coalition including the American Civil Liberties Union, Indivisible, 50501, and dozens of other groups. Organizers claim there were 2,600 events held around the country.
The George Soros-funded Open Society Action Fund reportedly gave $3 million to Indivisible. Trump has repeatedly accused Democrats of paying protesters who turn out against his administration.
Meanwhile, the White House mocked Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries on X, reposting a meme portraying the two Democrats as cartoon princesses with a “No Kings” caption. The account also posted an image of Schumer wearing a sombrero, labeling him the “NY king of sombreros.”
