ST. LOUIS (AP) — Jordan Kyrou and Jimmy Snuggerud scored second-period goals, Jordan Binnington made 18 saves, and the St. Louis Blues defeated the Dallas Stars 3-1 on Saturday night.
Pius Suter also scored to help the Blues earn their first win in three home games this season. Prior to this game, St. Louis was outscored 13-3 in its previous two contests at the Enterprise Center.
Mikko Rantanen scored for the Stars, while Jake Oettinger made 19 saves. Dallas dropped their second straight game after starting the season with three consecutive wins.
Kyrou opened the scoring at 2:27 of the second period on a give-and-go play with Brayden Schenn. It marked the first time this season that Dallas did not score first. Until now, the Stars were the only NHL team yet to allow the first goal in any game.
Snuggerud extended the Blues’ lead to 2-0 with 6:08 left in the period, poking home a rebound off Pavel Buchnevich’s shot amid a scramble in front of the net. This was Snuggerud’s third goal in his last three games.
The goal came less than 30 seconds after Binnington made a key glove save on Wyatt Johnston, who found himself alone in front of the net following a giveaway by Justin Faulk. Binnington continued to frustrate Johnston in the third period with another glove save early in the frame.
Rantanen finally got the Stars on the board with a tip-in of Johnston’s feed with just 2:18 remaining, but Suter sealed the win for St. Louis with an empty-net goal at 1:01 left.
Saturday’s game also marked a milestone for Blues defenseman Colton Parayko. Playing in his 728th game, Parayko moved past David Backes to take sole possession of seventh place on the franchise’s all-time games played list.
