Minecraft’s iconic Creeper might not be added to the game if it was made today says Mojang CEO – ‘It would actually be so controversial to have a monster that would show up and destroy what you built’

Mojang CEO Jens Bergensten has revealed that Minecraft’s iconic Creeper probably wouldn’t be included in the game if it were made today, describing the creature as “so controversial” that it might not pass current development rules.

In a recent behind-the-scenes developer video titled *The Biome That Broke Minecraft*, Bergensten discussed the Creeper, one of Minecraft’s most recognizable enemies known for blowing itself up and destroying anything nearby. Despite its status as a gaming icon, Bergensten explained that the Creeper’s destructive nature would likely make it a difficult addition under today’s standards.

“Even to this day, it’s one of the monsters in gaming that I’m still a little afraid of,” Bergensten admitted. “If you were to follow the rules that we have today, we would probably not add the Creeper. Because it would actually be so controversial to have a monster that would show up and destroy what you built.”

Earlier in the video, he emphasized the importance of balancing Minecraft’s destructive elements. Bergensten highlighted how creatures like the Enderman—known for removing blocks and disrupting player creations—also require careful testing with the community to ensure the destruction doesn’t become too frustrating.

“It’s very important that whenever you add something destructive to the game, you need to test it with the players and make sure it finds the right level of destruction,” he explained.

There’s no denying that Minecraft’s survival mode wouldn’t be the same without the Creeper’s pesky presence. Whether you love or hate the creature, it undeniably adds an extra layer of challenge and excitement to the gameplay.
