Tonight, on The Stevetendo Show, we’re diving back into our playthrough of *The Messenger*. This game feels like a blend of old-school platforming—think *Ninja Gaiden*—mixed with Metroidvania elements. As this is my first time playing *The Messenger*, I’ve really enjoyed the experience so far.
One gameplay mechanic I find particularly interesting is the ability to switch between 8-bit and 16-bit graphics seamlessly. It adds a unique visual and gameplay twist that keeps things fresh. However, one aspect I find a bit frustrating is the inability to attack upward, which can make certain encounters more challenging.
In our last episode, we managed to find more music notes required to unlock the music box inside the Tower of Time. Hunting these notes can be quite tricky, but thankfully, we can save up our in-game currency and pay for hints to locate them. It feels like we’re getting close to finishing *The Messenger*, although I have been mistaken about that in past playthroughs!
Set to go live at 5 p.m. PDT / 8 p.m. EDT, join The Stevetendo Show tonight for more adventures in *The Messenger*. Shackers wanting to join in the fun can head over to the Shacknews Twitch channel, where The Stevetendo Show streams every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
If you can’t make tonight’s show, don’t worry. You can catch Monday nights at 6 p.m. PDT / 9 p.m. EDT. Monday will be a Shacker’s Choice night, where I’ll be playing *Crow Country* for the very first time. Additionally, our *Donkey Kong Bananza* playthrough will continue next week, and the action is heating up—you won’t want to miss it!
Be sure to check out the Shacknews Twitch channel and the Shacknews VODs YouTube channel to catch up on your favorite Shacknews programs. Subscribing to the YouTube channel and following the Twitch channel ensures you won’t miss any content.
In case you’re not aware, Shacknews has launched a new service called Shackmaps. The wonderful Shacknews staff has curated maps for some of your favorite games to help you avoid getting lost during your adventures.
Looking ahead, keep an eye out for scary games on Monday nights throughout October. After that, we’ll be switching up our Monday lineup from Mario Kart to *Super Mario Galaxy 2*, effectively creating “Super Mario Monday.”
Since we’re nearly finished with both *Donkey Kong Bananza* and *The Messenger*, expect new playthroughs to start soon on The Stevetendo Show. If we wrap up *The Messenger* this evening, I’ll share my full thoughts on the game as well as potential replacements in our show rotation.
Keep sending in your suggestions for games you’d love to see featured on The Stevetendo Show. If it’s on the Nintendo Switch 2 or available through the Nintendo Switch 2 Online service, it could have its moment in an upcoming episode. Nintendo frequently updates the Nintendo Switch 2 Online service, so stay tuned for surprises!
