Almost 700 visitors from across the state flocked to the WA College of Agriculture Narrogin for its esteemed open day, which featured displays, competitions, industry exhibitions, and country hospitality.
The annual event, held on September 12, showcased the college’s diverse programs with dedicated areas for farming, trades, classroom work, walking tours, and campus history. Visitors also had access to enrolment and health and wellbeing information.
Farming highlights included bus tours, student shearing and wool handling demonstrations, as well as displays of fencing, machinery, poultry, and cattle. A crowd favorite was the special “Guess the Weight of Winnie” game, featuring the college’s poddy calf.
The extensive trades area was bustling with interest as attendees explored engineering, furniture making, automotive, and construction projects crafted by students. Classroom areas were open to showcase student work and science demonstrations.
With assistance from the Narrogin Restoration Group, restored vintage tractors and iconic vehicles were on display alongside college memorabilia in The Club Museum.
The yearly College P&C Fundraiser attracted fantastic prize donations from the community and raised vital funds for future school projects. Additionally, the Royal Flying Doctor Service was supported through a gold coin donation in exchange for all-day tea and coffee, morning tea, chef’s spit roast lamb, and lunches.
College principal Clare Roser expressed her excitement about the great turnout: “Open day is the perfect opportunity for families in the local and wider community to connect with staff and students, and to discover what makes our college so unique.” She added, “The feedback has been amazing.”
