**Zoho’s Arattai App to Introduce End-to-End Encryption for Text Chats**

Zoho, the Indian tech giant, is set to enhance the security of its messaging platform, Arattai, by adding end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for text messages. The company’s CEO, Mani Vembu, revealed this in an interview with Moneycontrol, highlighting the ongoing efforts to make encrypted messaging more accessible to users.
“In personal messaging, we already offer a ‘secret chat’ option that allows users to enable encryption for private conversations. While it is not the default yet, the entire team is focused on making it available to all users soon,” Vembu explained.
### Addressing Security Concerns
This move comes in response to user inquiries about Arattai’s security framework, especially following Zoho’s confirmation that E2EE is already in place for voice and video calls on the platform. With the introduction of encrypted text chats, Arattai will align itself with global messaging services like WhatsApp and Signal, which prioritize encryption as a fundamental feature.
### A Local Alternative Supporting India’s Digital Sovereignty
Arattai is more than just a messaging app—it is part of India’s broader push for digital sovereignty. Developed entirely in-house by Zoho, the platform aims to provide a secure and locally developed alternative to foreign digital services.
Since its launch in early 2021, Arattai has focused on privacy-centric communication for both personal and professional use. The app benefits from Zoho’s extensive engineering expertise accumulated over more than two decades, continuously improving its functionality and security.
### Government Endorsements Boost Arattai’s Profile
The app’s prominence has grown significantly following public endorsements from several Union ministers, including Ashwini Vaishnaw, Dharmendra Pradhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Piyush Goyal. These endorsements underscore Arattai as a strong indigenous alternative to major Big Tech platforms.
Zoho’s commitment to data sovereignty is evident in its practices—hosting all user data within India and avoiding ad-based monetization or third-party tracking.
### Focus on Security and User Trust
Mani Vembu emphasized that despite the growing popularity of Arattai, the focus remains on enhancing the product’s core technology rather than rushing to release updates. “Security and user trust are at the heart of everything we do,” he said.
Once end-to-end encryption for text messaging becomes the default setting, all forms of communication on Arattai—voice, video, and text—will be fully protected. This means that not even Zoho will have access to users’ private messages, ensuring the highest level of privacy and security for its users.
