**Uttar Pradesh’s SRLM Empowers Rural Women with Eco-Friendly Diwali Products**
Lucknow: Under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Uttar Pradesh’s State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM) has launched a significant initiative to promote women’s self-reliance ahead of Diwali.
Rural women’s self-help groups (SHGs) are actively producing eco-friendly diyas, candles, idols, and festive hampers. This initiative has sparked strong interest among both rural and urban consumers, highlighting the growing demand for sustainable and locally crafted products.
Mission Director Deepa Ranjan shared that thousands of group members are crafting designer diyas, candles, and festive items tailored to market demand. Noteworthy among these are Ganesh-Lakshmi idols made from cow dung and “panchgavya,” along with beeswax candles. These products are not only environment-friendly but also aesthetically appealing.
To boost visibility and recognition, SRLM is preparing a coffee-table book showcasing the diverse range of SHG-made goods. This publication aims to promote these products at both national and international levels.
Additionally, the products have been registered on various online sales platforms to expand their market reach. District officials have also been directed to set up dedicated stalls for SHG products in marketplaces and government offices to maximize sales opportunities.
Mission Director Deepa Ranjan emphasized that this initiative not only fosters eco-friendly festivities but also plays a pivotal role in empowering thousands of rural women, helping them achieve financial independence and self-confidence.
With these efforts, SRLM continues to strengthen rural livelihoods while encouraging sustainable celebrations across Uttar Pradesh.
