**Donald Trump Sparks Backlash Over Claim He Warned Government About Osama Bin Laden Before 9/11**
*Published October 6, 2025, 5:45 p.m. ET*
Donald Trump has ignited a wave of criticism after bizarrely claiming he warned the government about Osama Bin Laden a year before the September 11 terrorist attacks, RadarOnline.com can reveal.
Critics have since called for Trump, 79, to be removed from office, asserting he has “officially lost it” following his unhinged remarks at the U.S. Navy’s 250th anniversary celebration in Norfolk, Virginia.
### Trump ‘Had to Take a Little Credit’ for Warning About Bin Laden
While addressing a crowd of sailors and officers, Trump lauded the elite Navy SEALs who carried out the high-stakes raid on Bin Laden’s compound and “put a bullet in his head” in 2011.
Though he began by highlighting the SEALs’ accomplishments, Trump quickly shifted focus to himself, claiming he “had to take a little credit” for sounding the alarm about the Al-Qaeda leader more than a decade before his death.
Trump said:
> “And please remember I wrote about Osama Bin Laden exactly one year ago, one year before he blew up the World Trade Center.
> And I said, ‘You got to watch Osama Bin Laden.’ And the fake news would never let me get away with that statement unless it was true.”
He appeared to be referring to his 2000 book, *The America We Deserve*, co-written by Dave Shiflett, although no such warning about Bin Laden is contained in the book.
He added:
> “But I can tell you there’s a page in there devoted to the fact that I saw somebody named Osama Bin Laden and I didn’t like it, and you’ve gotta take care of him. They didn’t do it. A year later, he blew up the World Trade Center.
> So, (I) gotta take a little credit because nobody else is going to give it to me. You know the old story: If they don’t give you credit, just take it yourself.”
Trump also alleged he spoke to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth about Bin Laden, despite the fact that Hegseth was only a college student at the time.
### Social Media Backlash: Critics Slam Trump’s Claims
Social media users wasted no time condemning Trump for “lying” about Bin Laden as videos of his speech went viral.
One X user wrote:
> “What the f— is this maniac talking about? He told Pete Hegseth about Osama Bin Laden a year before 9/11? Pete Hegseth was a 20-year-old college kid a year before 9/11. Trump needs to be removed from office. He’s COMPLETELY lost it.”
Another said:
> “In saner times NO ONE, NO PARTY, NO ADMINISTRATION would allow this to continue. He is clearly unfit for office, a danger to our country and democracy. INVOKE the 25th!”
### Trump’s Remarks Called ‘Dementia on Steroids’
A third critic added:
> “This is nuts. And it’s not his usual crazy – this is dementia on steroids. Why are Republicans allowing this?”
And a fourth commenter wrote:
> “This is classic advanced dementia from a narcissistic little coward who’s always taken credit for things he never did. Next, he’ll be claiming he ended WWI.”
Trump’s comments about Bin Laden and 9/11 are the latest to fuel rumors about his cognitive health. As RadarOnline.com previously reported, days before the Navy celebration, Trump raised concern about his mental faculties when he rambled incoherently about struggling to walk up and down stairs.
