**‘Navrang’ Actor Sandhya Shantaram, V. Shantaram’s Wife, Dies at 87**

Veteran actress Sandhya Shantaram, renowned for her graceful and courageous performances, passed away at the age of 87. Sandhya gained widespread recognition for her memorable roles in classic films such as *Pinjra* and *Navrang*.
Her iconic dance performance in the song “Arre Ja Re Hatt Natkhat” from the 1959 film *Navrang* remains etched in the memories of cinephiles. Interestingly, she learned classical dance specifically for this song. With no choreographer involved, Sandhya and director V. Shantaram collaboratively created the dance steps. The shoot featured real elephants and horses, and she performed the entire sequence without any stunt doubles or tricks, showcasing her dedication and talent.
Sandhya Shantaram’s last rites were held on Saturday at Vaikunth Dham in Shivaji Park. Although the cause of her death has not been officially disclosed, a source informed India Today that she passed away due to health-related issues.

Sandhya Shantaram was married to the legendary filmmaker V. Shantaram. Their relationship blossomed while working together on *Navrang*, despite V. Shantaram being previously married to Jayashree. After their marriage, Sandhya became his muse and starred in several iconic Indian films including *Amar Bhoopali*, *Navrang*, *Pinjra*, *Do Aankhen Barah Haath*, and *Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje*. Their collaboration left an indelible mark on Indian cinema, blending artistic vision with compelling storytelling.

BJP leader Ashish Shelar took to social media to mourn her demise. He expressed his grief, writing, “The news of the passing of Sandhya Shantaram ji, the renowned actress from the film *Pinjra* is extremely heartbreaking. In the Marathi and Hindi film industries, she left a distinct impression on the audience’s minds with her unparalleled acting and dance skills.”
