Thane Crime: Anti-Corruption Bureau Arrests TMC Deputy Commissioner, Associate In ₹25 Lakh Bribery Case

**Mumbai: Deputy Commissioner of Thane Municipal Corporation Arrested in Rs 25 Lakh Bribery Case**

Shankar Patole, a deputy commissioner of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), along with a private individual, was arrested by the Thane Unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in connection with a Rs 25 lakh bribery case. On Thursday, both were produced before a local court, which remanded them to police custody until October 4.

### Allegations of Bribery

According to the ACB, on September 29, a developer approached Patole, who was heading the TMC’s Encroachment Control and Eviction Department, regarding an illegal encroachment issue on a land he was developing. The complainant alleged that Patole demanded a bribe of Rs 50 lakh in order to take action against the illegal encroachment.

### The First Installment Catch

A private individual, Omkar Gaikar, who allegedly accepted the first installment of Rs 25 lakh as part of the bribe, was caught by an ACB team on Wednesday evening. Following this, Gaikar reportedly called Patole to inform him about the receipt of the bribe money. Subsequently, Patole was also apprehended by the ACB officials.

### FIR Registered

An FIR was registered by the ACB with the Naupada police against the accused under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act on Thursday.
