**Amazon Fresh Expands to Over 270 Cities Across India**

Amazon Fresh, the grocery division of Amazon India, has significantly expanded its footprint to more than 270 cities nationwide. This marks a substantial growth from around 60 cities just two years ago, reflecting the company’s aggressive growth strategy and rising consumer demand.
### Strong Consumer Adoption and Sales Growth
The expansion has been met with enthusiastic consumer response. During the initial two days of Amazon’s ongoing Great Indian Festival sale, Amazon Fresh reported an impressive 40% year-on-year (YoY) growth in sales value.
Srikant Sree Ram, Director at Amazon Fresh, expressed his satisfaction with this progress, noting, “We were in only about 30 cities three years ago, and today we are in more than 270 cities.” He highlighted that customers consistently appreciate the quality of fruits, vegetables, and perishables available on Amazon Fresh, along with the savings offered.
### Surge Across Multiple Categories During Festival Season
The festive season has driven significant demand growth across various product categories:
– Dry fruits and nuts saw a 21-fold increase YoY
– Multivitamins grew 5 times
– Sports nutrition surged 4 times
– Beauty products skyrocketed 70%
– Niche segments like nail care experienced a 5-fold rise
– Gifting categories boomed, with gift sets increasing 12 times
### Financial Benefits Fueled by GST Reforms
The timing of GST reforms coinciding with the Great Indian Festival sale further fueled festive sales. According to Sree Ram, “Consumers saved crores of rupees, with more than ₹260 crore saved within two days through SBI debit and credit card transactions.”
Amazon Fresh has also observed a shift in consumer buying behavior—from traditional monthly stocking to more frequent weekly shopping habits.
### Strategic Growth and Farmer Support
The 4.5x growth in Amazon Fresh’s expansion has been driven by leveraging Amazon.in’s marketplace data and Prime member density to pinpoint demand clusters effectively. Over the past two years, the company has doubled its farmer base from 6,000 to 13,000, sourcing nearly 70% of fruits and vegetables from within a 200-kilometer radius of customer locations. This strategy supports local farmers while ensuring fresh produce supply.
### Enhanced Service and Fulfillment Network
Amazon Fresh now offers over 40,000 products, a massive increase from just 3,000–4,000 three years ago. The company provides convenient slotted deliveries within two-hour windows, covering at least 90% of pincodes in every city it operates.
Major metropolitan areas like Bengaluru feature over 20 fulfillment centers, while smaller cities are served by single fulfillment points, ensuring broad and efficient coverage.
