Indian women’s team pacer Arundhati Reddy recently shared a frightening experience she endured during India’s first warm-up match against England on September 25, ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup.
### The Incident
The scary moment unfolded when Reddy instinctively went for a return catch from England captain Heather Knight while following through. Unfortunately, she lost her balance and fell awkwardly on her left leg, collapsing on the field and immediately requiring medical attention.
### Injury Details
After the fall, Reddy was unable to put weight on her injured leg. She was assisted off the field in a wheelchair to receive prompt treatment. Despite initial concerns over her ability to continue in the tournament, Reddy made a remarkable recovery and made a strong comeback in India’s subsequent match against New Zealand. In that game, she took two crucial wickets and played a key role in India’s four-wicket (DLS) victory.
### Recovery Journey
After the match held at Bengaluru’s BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground, teammate Harleen Deol asked Reddy how she managed to bounce back so quickly after being in a wheelchair. Reddy responded:
> “Initially, it was scary for me as well because at that time it was quite a big impact, so I was really scared to even get up. But I would really like to thank the medical staff and the team because they really did a good job.”
### Looking Ahead
India is set to begin their ICC Women’s World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on September 30 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. The country has previously hosted the Women’s Cricket World Cup in 1978, 1997, and 2013 but is yet to claim the title. India’s best home performance came in 1997 when they reached the semifinals before losing to Australia in New Delhi.
With Arundhati Reddy back fit and firing, India looks poised to make a strong impact in this year’s tournament.
