**Chaos Erupts During Free Helmet Distribution Programme in Bhopal**
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Utter chaos broke out during a free helmet distribution programme held at Atal Path on Saturday. The event, organised by Bhopal Police under the “Sewa Pakwada” road security awareness campaign, attracted a large crowd eager to receive helmets.
Approximately 2,100 helmets were distributed free of cost. However, as soon as Chief Minister Mohan Yadav left the venue after delivering his speech, people rushed to grab the helmets, leading to a chaotic scene. Videos circulating on social media showed youths forcefully pushing their way into the tent where the helmets were stored, snatching helmet boxes, and fleeing. The situation quickly escalated into scuffles with people elbowing each other and fighting to grab helmets.
Interestingly, even some police personnel were seen joining the scramble to secure helmets. Despite their presence, the police deployed at the venue struggled to control the unruly crowd as many youths quarrelled and rushed away with the helmets.
**Chief Minister’s Warning on Road Safety**
While addressing the event, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav emphasized the importance of wearing helmets. He stated, “The entire family pays the price for a small mistake like not wearing a helmet. Road accidents contribute the most to unnatural deaths. Most of these happen due to not wearing helmets, over speeding, and not using seat belts in four-wheelers.”
**Police Commissioner Appeals for Caution**
Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra highlighted alarming statistics, revealing that in 2024, around 1.80 lakh people lost their lives in road accidents across India, while about three lakh were injured.
He urged the youth to always wear helmets when riding two-wheelers and to avoid over speeding to help reduce the number of road accidents and save lives.
