A Delhi court has granted bail to Gaganpreet Kaur, the accused in a fatal BMW crash that claimed the life of a senior Finance Ministry official. The Patiala House Court approved her bail on a bond of ₹1 lakh along with two sureties.
### Bail Conditions and Court Observations
The court imposed several conditions on Kaur’s bail, including the surrender of her passport and a mandate to ensure her presence at every subsequent hearing.
In addition, the court raised serious questions about the ambulance that arrived at the accident scene. Although the ambulance reportedly reached the site within seconds, it did not take the injured victims to the hospital promptly. The court questioned the ambulance’s negligence, asking, “What should be done with this ambulance? Are they not accused of the offense of death due to a negligent act?”
### Details of the Crash
The tragic accident occurred near Dhaula Kuan when Gaganpreet Kaur’s BMW collided with a motorcycle carrying Navjot Singh, Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, and his wife, Sandeep Kaur. Navjot Singh succumbed to his injuries, while his wife was critically injured.
Investigations revealed that the couple was taken to Nulife Hospital in North Delhi, located about 19 kilometers from the accident site. Singh’s family has alleged that precious time was wasted as the victims were not rushed to a nearby hospital immediately after the crash.
### Legal Proceedings
Gaganpreet Kaur has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, along with other offenses under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. During the trial, Kaur stated that she panicked after the accident and took the victims to a hospital she was familiar with.
Currently, Kaur is out on bail but remains under judicial custody stipulations as the investigation and legal proceedings continue.
