**Man from Khandwa Arrested for Rs 30 Lakh Theft in Vijay Nagar**
Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A man from Khandwa district was arrested in connection with a theft of Rs 30 lakh from a locked house in the Vijay Nagar area, police said on Friday. Gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs of rupees were recovered from him.
According to police, before committing the theft, the accused had stolen the CCTVs and the DVR from the house to destroy any evidence.
The incident took place at the residence of Jagdish Panda in Scheme Number 74 between September 4 and September 20. Panda informed the police that his mother resides in Odisha and was unwell, prompting him and his family to leave for Odisha on September 4. Upon returning home, they found all three locks of the main door broken.
The gold ornaments valued at Rs 30 lakh and some cash were stolen from the almirah. Additionally, the CCTVs installed in the house were missing.
After receiving the complaint, a team led by Vijay Nagar police station in-charge Chandrakant Patel was formed to investigate the case and apprehend the accused. The investigation hit a roadblock initially due to the missing CCTVs and DVR, which made it difficult to determine the exact time and date of the theft.
The police examined CCTV footage from surrounding areas over a period of about 15 days. Through this, they identified the suspect as Deepak Bansal, a resident of Khadki village in Khandwa district.
When the police team reached his village, the accused attempted to flee but was ultimately arrested and brought to Indore.
Following information provided by Deepak Bansal, the police recovered the stolen gold ornaments, which had been buried by him in an attempt to mislead the investigation.
The accused is currently being questioned further as the investigation continues.
