Amazon paying $2.5B to settle Prime enrollment case

WASHINGTON, United States — Amazon agreed Thursday to pay $2.5 billion to settle allegations brought by a US regulator.

The company was accused of using deceptive practices to enroll consumers in Amazon Prime and making it difficult for them to cancel their subscriptions.

The Federal Trade Commission’s lawsuit, filed in federal court in Seattle, alleged that Amazon knowingly tricked consumers.
