After a five-year hiatus, Spotify has once again partnered with Algoriddim’s widely used DJ app, djay. This renewed integration allows Spotify Premium subscribers to log in and stream their playlists directly from the Mac and Windows versions of djay, bringing back a fan-favorite feature for desktop users.
### Background: The Past Integration and Its End
The collaboration between Spotify and Algoriddim was previously very popular among DJs, providing seamless access to Spotify’s vast music library within the djay app. However, in 2020, Spotify discontinued this integration citing licensing issues. As per Spotify’s Terms of Service, mixing Spotify songs in third-party DJ apps was prohibited, which led to the partnership’s termination.
### What Has Changed?
Now, after resolving those earlier roadblocks, Spotify is back in the djay app—but currently, this integration is limited to desktop platforms (Mac and Windows). There has been no announcement yet regarding when or if Spotify streaming will be available on djay’s mobile versions.
### Benefits for Users
The return of Spotify integration is especially beneficial for users of djay’s free version. Although the Pro subscription still offers advanced features like hardware integration and various effects, free users can now enjoy direct access to Spotify’s huge music library within the DJ software.
Since Spotify’s departure, Algoriddim had integrated with other streaming services such as Tidal, SoundCloud, and Apple Music. But the comeback of Spotify is sure to excite many DJs who prefer its extensive playlists and user experience.
Stay tuned for updates on whether this integration will expand to mobile devices in the near future.
