**Fraudster Hacks Amazon Pay Later Account Linked to SBI, Steals Over ₹98,000 in Jabalpur**
Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A man named Lalit Kumar Gupta fell victim to a cyber fraud when a perpetrator hacked his Amazon Pay Later account linked to his SBI bank account and made two unauthorized online payments totaling over Rs 98,000.
Lalit lodged a complaint at the Lordganj Police Station after discovering fraudulent transactions on his Amazon Pay Later account, which has a credit limit of Rs 1 lakh. The issue came to light when Lalit received SMS alerts about loan EMI deductions from his SBI account over the last two months — deductions linked to his Amazon Pay Later facility.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that ₹98,941 had been siphoned off from his Amazon Pay Later account. According to police reports, the fraudster executed two online payments on June 9, one for Rs 100 and another for Rs 98,841, to two different firms.
The complainant stated that he last accessed his Amazon account on June 8. Shortly after, the fraudster hacked into the account and changed the registered mobile number, blocking Lalit’s access to it. Amazon initially suspended the account on the same day due to suspected unauthorized activity. However, the fraudster managed to reactivate the account and complete the two fraudulent payments during the period they controlled it.
Further investigation traced the transferred funds to an Amazon/Retail Fiesta account under the name Manish, a resident of Gurgaon, Haryana.
The complaint has been officially registered under section 318(4) of the BNS, and local authorities are actively investigating the matter to trace the offender and recover the lost amount.
Stay vigilant and regularly monitor your online accounts to avoid falling prey to such frauds.
