**SIWS College Vice-Principal Sheela Krishnan Denies Allegations Amidst Staff Agitation**
Mumbai: Sheela Krishnan, the vice-principal of SIWS College, Wadala, has strongly denied the allegations made against her by the teachers, the Maharashtra Junior College Teachers’ Union, and the Maharashtra Junior College Teachers’ Organisation. The staff have been agitating for over a week, demanding her removal.
**Discipline vs Alleged Targeting**
Krishnan stated on Friday, “For an institution to prosper and maintain goodwill among society, the institutional heads must uphold discipline among the fraternity and students alike. I have done exactly that.” She added that some teachers, especially those affiliated with the Mumbai Junior Colleges Teachers Organization (MJCTO), have taken a dislike to her efforts, resulting in targeted actions to create an atmosphere aimed at compelling her resignation.
She further described the complaint as “fictitious, baseless, concocted, and vague,” emphasizing that a close examination would reveal its malicious nature.
**On Allegations of a Toxic Work Environment**
Addressing claims that she created a toxic environment, Krishnan said, “The signatories of the memorandum submitted to the college management have alleged this, which is false. I have not taken any disciplinary action against any staff member. In fact, I have overlooked habitual late arrivals and the lethargy in adhering to the five-hour schedule.” She remarked that no memos or warnings have been issued to erring staff, though she would have had the right to do so.
**Denial of Abusive Behaviour**
Krishnan also categorically denied any instances of body shaming or use of abusive language. “I come from a respectable family and am averse to such abominable behaviour,” she asserted. Regarding the complaints from ten teachers, she explained that their action was “a retaliatory response” after she asked them to explain their failure to conduct practical lectures.
**On FYJC Admissions and Threat Allegations**
Commenting on the First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions, Krishnan clarified, “I was not responsible for the surrendered seats during admissions. The faculty technical heads, particularly some signatories to the complaint, were responsible for divulging the passwords in their custody.”
She firmly denied threatening anyone, saying, “The fact that the allegations were made after a year reveals the ulterior motives behind them. If I had threatened removal or imprisonment, why then did they not take action at the relevant time instead of waiting for a year?”
**Clarification on Teacher Workload**
Krishnan explained the workload distribution, stating, “There are sufficient Hindi teachers and workload available, whereas the Marathi teacher does not have enough workload, which may have rendered her surplus.” She added, “The suggestion I put forth was solely to protect her employment.”
**Students’ Performance and Other Allegations**
Highlighting positive outcomes, Krishnan shared, “My actions have yielded positive results. The students are not only happy and satisfied but are also performing well academically.” She denied having taken 13 Environmental Studies (EVS) lectures in the commerce department and clarified that the issue related to Sanch Manyata inputs lies with the education department, with no involvement on her part.
“My actions have always been aimed at protecting the faculty, not rendering them surplus,” she concluded.
