Landed here . . . April 3, 1940
Flew home . . . October 18, 2004
Gaze out ov'r the water
Look back along our life's time,
All answers we so crave
Are there, rolling, ever-riding
The crest of each wave.
We've always heard it said
You must reach to the sky.
Yet, it's in the water,
That the mysteries lie.
Where were you
When I was then?
Why things aren't
What might have been?
All the while I've been here
And you've been there,
Only the water apart.
Our lives to be, had to live,
Yet you dwelled, deep in my heart.
Our time, this time, was brief
But a wink of the eye, the fall of a leaf
A doorway, perhaps, that swings
Open to the pages, that for us
Eternity brings.
But for now, you've broken free
A few steps, months, ahead of me.
So soar, dance, and sing where you may.
Be 'high flying' . . . forever!
Not just for a week, or just for a day.
Yes, 'Rainy Day People' we were
Grasping a bit of time, a setting sun.
Like the wood smoke, questions still rise.
The water, awhile, has widened,
So for now . . . I'll reach to the skies. |
